Jo Sunshine, a partially sighted artist brings Skypark’s walls to life as her ‘shining’ art exhibition gets underway in our donated gallery space. Jo takes inspiration from animals, people, nature and celebrating life, creating art in a vibrant style.
Jo, who lives in Glasgow, turned to drawing after experiencing a life-changing accident. She said:
“I have always been an artist but after an accident eight years ago left me with partial sight, I began to draw in neon crayon by tuning into colour. Neon crayon has its own unique quality, and a distinctive bright colour range that I can see.”
“I am inspired by everything in life and compelled to draw two pictures every day. The collection features Branston Pickle, Glasgow University from a distance, Giraffe Love, Waverley Passing the Armadillo on the Clyde, Owl in a Tree, and a Rabbie Burns Portrait. Unframed art work will be available to buy from £25. I can also take commissions for original work by arrangement.”
Skypark’s donated art gallery was established in 2011, supporting art in the workplace for campus residents and the wider community. Strategic Lettings Advisor, Angela Higgins of Resonance Capital added: “Jo is an inspiration, and we are thrilled to have her work ‘shining’ in our donated gallery. As a supporter of the Glasgow arts scene, we offer artists the chance to show their work to the public beyond traditional art galleries. We encourage other artists to get in contact with their ideas.”
Jo has created 9,000 pictures and appeared in exhibitions across Glasgow as well as featuring on BBC Scotland. Her work can be found in private homes across the world as well as in Scotland.
This exhibition is free and open to the public from 9-5pm, Monday to Friday in Skypark 1. It runs till 26 April 2024.
