Skypark announces first animation and technology festival featuring Axis Studios and first collaboration with Glasgow’s SWG3 venue

Skypark has announced it is investing in its first technology and animation visual effects festival and a first collaboration with the arts and studio venue SWG3, to showcase its outstanding community and offering to the growing technology and media sectors.

The first technology festival, takes place on 28th September, and will see a line-up of technology and creative specialists based there. Virtual reality demonstrations by global animation company Axis Studios, with space pioneers Spire Global and Clyde Space alongside product designers Filament PD and Freedom One Life, creators of a lightweight power chair amongst others will feature. The festival continues with a public gig ‘Reel Serene’ – Skypark’s first collaboration with City arts space and venue SWG3, with animation by Axis Studios alongside Scottish band VanIves and Nordic Kiasmos DJ Set by Janus Rasmussen, hot off a European tour.

Angela Higgins of Resonance Capital Skypark’s specialist asset advisor, said: “Our technology festival will showcase the diversity of companies that are based here that are leading their sectors internationally from Scotland. With Pacific Quay’s media quarter in the neighbourhood, we have potential for expansion in two development locations. We want to attract and showcase more technology and media companies at Skypark.”

Axis Studios is a multi-award winning animation and visual effects collective, comprising three artistically unique studios: Axis Animation, axisVFX and Flaunt. The studios work extensively across film, television, video games and themed entertainment, collaborating with the likes of the BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, Amazon Studios, Universal Studios, Sega, Blizzard Entertainment and Microsoft. Axis Studios is headquartered in Skypark, Glasgow, with additional facilities in Bristol and London.

Richard Scott of Axis Studios said: “We are really excited to showcase our first project release in the medium of VR based on one of our original concepts.  The Skypark audience will have an exclusive preview of “The Bond” which is set in an incredibly rich and detailed world filled with fantastical creatures and mystical characters.”

The technology festival continues at the venue SWG3, a first collaboration with Skypark that will be open to the public, and will also feature animation by Axis Studios.

Angela Higgins continued: “Reel Serene is our first international collaboration with neighbourhood venue SWG3. It blends the global animation talents of Axis Studios with Nordic Kiasmos DJ Set and Scottish duo VanIves, to create a serene feast for all of the senses to enjoy.  In future, we hope to encourage diverse collaborations with SWG3 that cut across the visual arts and music, and organically grow Reel Serene to an annual fixture.”

Andrew Mickel, director of SWG3 said: “We are very happy to host and enable this exciting event to happen. The creative industries are one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy and shows Glasgow can flourish at shaping the future. The event will be a celebration of the talent driving forward emerging start-ups and established companies, helping them stay at the forefront of creating new technologies.”
